After last week, Kotetsu figured everyone needed some cheering up. Thankfully, the satellite had done most of the work for him. He had been given a councilor's apparel and, dang it, he was taking it to heart.

There was a campfire ablaze near the lake, with hot dogs and marshmallows at the ready nearby. A couple of tables were set up for arts and crafts, so the kids could make birdhouses or dreamcatchers. He'd even managed to set up a small archery field. (The tips were suction cups. No need for any more tragedies.)

Whenever anyone signed in, he greeted them with an enthusiastic "Welcome to Camp S.O.L.!", then directed them towards the activities. Finally, he pointed out where the boys and girls tents were located, with a warning that he better not find anyone in the wrong tent.

Xion had greeted Kotetsu when she signed in, then set out to explore the changes in the nature deck. Not being hungry or interested in arts and crafts, she went over to the archery area. She'd never tried it before, but it seemed simple enough.

She knocked an arrow, aimed, then let it fly towards the target. Not a bulls-eye, but respectable.

After saying hello to Kotetsu and exploring a little, Namine had settled at the arts and crafts area. She decided to try making a dreamcatcher first; it looked like the easier of the two possibilities.

Campfire!

Sora was more than willing to now get into the spirit of things since everything weas now looking up, what with 90s Kid mysteriously coming back. Even if the uniforms were...kinda dumb, that was made up by the snacks and all the new outdoor activities that usually even the nature deck couldn't handle.

While there were lots of things he wanted to try, for now he just sat himself down by the campfire, with all the trappings for smores ready to go. This whole setup reminded him of traveling with Donald and Goofy, and their frequent camping out on the road in various worlds. This wasn't the same, but it was close.

And maybe some of the others here had scary stories to share...

Kanji had been at the table for some time. He was currently veeery intent on paining stripes on a rather elaborate birdhouse.

"Not bad," MakubeX said, coming up beside her. He found the camp clothing to be quite humiliating, so he was currently wrapped in a blanket, heat be darned. He was very uncomfortable and way out of his element.

Xion smiled at him. "Thanks. It looks like I need a little more practice, though."

Then she noticed the blanket. "Are you cold?"

It didn't seem cold to her, but why else would he be wearing a blanket? It didn't occur to her to think he might not like the clothing offered this week; her Girl Scout uniform had taken some getting used to, but she was fine with it now.

Namine gathered her materials and sat across from him. Not wanting to bother him (or startle him and make him mess up), she began to work as quietly as possible. When happened to glance up, though, she offered a small smile and a wave.

"Hey. Had a feeling you'd be stopping by here."

"Or to just refine your technique a bit."

MakubeX sighed and frowned down at the blanket. "I'm rather uncomfortable in these clothes. ...and in this environment."

As far as Xion was concerned, it certainly was easier to enjoy what was going on this week now that she knew everyone was okay. The uniform had taken some getting used to, but it wasn't bad and since this was the first time an alternative to her usual outfit that vaguely resembled something she was used to was welcome.

After spending some time at the archery area, she wandered over to the campfire and noticed Sora there. She offered him a smile and a wave in greeting, then focused on the snacks--they didn't look like anything she'd seen before. "What's all that?"

"Practicing should help with that." It would give her a chance to experiment with different techniques and see which worked best for her, at least.

Hearing the reason for the blanket, she tilted her head in thought. After deciding to leave the issue of the clothes alone, she continued. "You're not used to being outdoors much?"

Granted, her only experiences outdoors hadn't included this sort of thing. Camping out because a mission took a long time was different from what was going on here.

It's 'I hope we never part', now get it right or pay the price!

Namine's smile turned sheepish.

"I guess I'm a little predictable. Are you almost finished with that?"

Not having seen a bird house before, she's a little curious.

"No," he replied, "There wasn't much green space back home."

"Nothin' wrong with that," Kanji said, waving a hand. He beamed and turned the house around so she could see the whole thing.

"Just about. I'm thinkin' of adding some polka dots on the blue stripes."

"Most of the green space I saw was in Wonderland--there was a big garden and maze. Oh, and the woods in Twilight Town were nice."

Wonderland she hadn't always liked, since everything seemed to change with each visit, but she'd liked the woods near the old mansion in Twilight Town. They'd been quiet and peaceful, unlike a lot of the other places she'd seen.

Sora had been focusing on putting his smores together when he noticed Xion coming over to join him. He waved back, smiling.

He looked down at the materials he'd gathered. Had she never had the chance to make this kind of snack before? Maybe not, considering. "It's stuff for smores! You roast a marshmallow over the fire, and then eat it with chocolate and graham crackers."

The only snack Xion had ever tried before coming here was sea-salt ice cream; that is, unless you counted what she knew from Sora's memories. When he explained the s'mores, the idea seemed familiar. Whatever the case, it looked good, if messy.

"So you make kind of a sandwich with everything?"

She looked a bit closer. "That might look nice. What color were you thinking of making them?"

It looked like he'd used a lot of different colors already.

Big Macintosh hadn't been camping in a very long time, always so busy on the farm. But it certainly brought back memories of the times he and AJ would spend out behind the fields, before even Apple Bloom was born.

He thought the campers might be hungry, so he passed by that afternoon with a big crate of fresh apples on his back. Well, as fresh as that food synthesizer would make them...he still wished he had some real apple trees to pick from; he was still figuring out that time machine the little colt mentioned.

Dropping the crate easily onto the grass, he offered Kotetsu a smile and a wave of his hoof.

They were messy, but that was also part of the fun of them. He recalled instances of Donald getting marshmallow stuck in his feathers and squawking about it, and smiled a little at the memory.

"Yeah! I'll show you." He handed her some of the crackers, chocolate, and a marshmallow, and stuck his own marshmallow on the end of a metal stick. Sora held it over the fire, and turned back to her. "You let it get hot so that it gets all melty, then use it to make a sandwich with the chocolate in the middle and the crackers like bread."

"Well, there's a lotta color on this thing already. I was kinda thinkin' white dots might look nice."

He shrugged, looking over the paints. "Unless you got a better idea."

"Hey, Big Mac," Kotetsu said, giving a wave of his own. He was glad to see Big Macintosh doing better.

"Thanks. This'll be a big help!"

"We were lucky to have a potted plant in some parts of the fortress," MakubeX said, taking another wary look around.

"I've always wondered what it would be like, but it's all so... open."

Xion followed his gaze. "It is. I actually come down here to think sometimes--it's quiet."

Then, remembering how helpful it had been to have a guide her first time out of the castle, she set down her bow. "Do you want to explore together?"

Messiness being fun wasn't a concept Xion was used to, so she'd have to take his word for it. She did remember laughing with Axel and Roxas whenever one of them hadn't managed to catch all the drips from melting ice cream.

"Like this?" She stuck the marshmallow he'd given her on the end of another metal skewer she'd found. Balancing her graham crackers and chocolate on a paper plate on her lap, she held her marshmallow over the fire. It wasn't too long before it started to get brown, even a little black. She quickly shifted it away from the fire.
