SURPRISE!

Characters: Pinkie and EVERYONE EVER
Content: Surprise parties!
Location: Deck 4; the cafeteria
Time of day: Evening
Warnings: None

When Pinkie Pie woke up with floppy eyebrows, a bouncy knee, and a twisty ear, she knew. Her Pinkie-Pie-Ultra-Super-Special-Birthday Sense was NEVER wrong. All throughout the day, wherever they happened to be, anyone who wasn't Minako would suddenly find themselves accosted by a pink party pony on the prowl. "HEY! It'sMinako'sbirthdaytodaysowe'regonnahaveaTOTALLYSUPERSECRETsurprise party! So don't tell ANYBODY and be in the cafeteria tonight before six okay bye!" she whispered all in one breath before darting away again, intent on informing the entire Satellite about the special day.

By the appointed time, the cafeteria was entirely decked out in red-and-white streamers and balloons, with a big sheet cake reading "HAPPY BIRTHDAY MINAKO!" and covered in red frosting-bows. It was hard to see the decorations, though, what with the entire room being shrouded in darkness. New arrivals were quickly pulled through the door by Pinkie. "Get ready!" she whispered. "Terra's supposed to be bringing Minako soon!" Since Terra and Minako seemed to be good friends, she'd put him in charge of making sure the birthday girl got to her party.

"They aren't," Aqua answered. "She barely even knows Terra." Admittedly, all three of them had been on the Satellite for more or less the same amount of time, but still. She was being awfully clingy in Aqua's eyes if this was how she was acting after what had to be not even a month. And worst of all was the fact that she was being so terribly upfront about it. Yes, Terra did require a certain amount of bluntness at times, but there was a different between bluntness and being forward.

Still, while Rarity did have a point, actually answering her question was easier said then done. Even if it was the truth, Aqua wasn't about to simply come out and say that she had feeling for him as well. Not to a stranger, even if the stranger was not only a pony but also trying her best to be helpful. "I know I probably shouldn't be," she answered after a moment of silence. "It's just... Terra doesn't really know what to do with people fawning all over him and it's not fair. To either of us."
sailorgenerous: (Not quite what I had in mind)

"And I assume you do, then?" Rarity still wasn't entirely sure what the situation was yet, aside from it involving romance and jealousy, but she was doing her best to figure it out.

That moment of silence was every bit as telling as her answer. After all, why be jealous of someone in a relationship unless you had feelings of your own? "And why is a little attention not fair to either of you?" she questioned. "Is it because you haven't had a chance to tell him about your feelings for him yet?" It was quite an assumption, yes, and there was a very good chance that Rarity would wind up putting her hoof in her mouth. On the other hoof, the best way to get answers in tricky situations was to simply push people into them, and she'd certainly had experience in that department.

Well, no. She wouldn't have known what to do about it either, but she was pretty sure she would have been able recognize sheer desperation better than Terra apparently had.

"I don't think that's any of your concern," Aqua answered back, almost without thinking. Yes, she had feeling for Terra, and no, she hadn't been able to bring them up. Before either of them had arrived here there had been far too much to do to bring it up and nor that they were here, well. The situation spoke for itself, pretty much.
sailorgenerous: (This drama goes to 11)

The stonewalling simply told Rarity that her assumption had been right. "Well, no," she replied, breezing right past the protest, "but it certainly is one of yours, and I don't think it will resolve itself anytime soon if you don't do something about it. Like I said, jealousy is terrible for any sort of relationship.

"Personally, I think you should tell him how you feel," she continued, eyes glittering with excitement. "You did say they're not an established couple, so now's your chance! And you do know him - at least, I assume you do," and given the way this nonpony had been acting, Rarity was fairly certain she was safe in that assumption, "so you already know what he likes and how to talk to him. All you have to do now is tell him how you really feel about him." She nudged Aqua's hips with her own. "And I have every confidence that he'll feel the same way about you." Truthfully, she didn't have the slightest idea how this Terra would feel, but this was terribly romantic and there was nothing wrong with a little encouragement, right?

All things considered, it was probably for the best that Rarity continued on as if she hadn't heard Aqua. The first part of what she was saying wasn't much that Aqua hadn't tried telling herself, but it was nice to hear her opinions from someone else.

"Of course I know him!" she answered. She had, after all, lived under the same roof as he had for the majority of her life, even if most of it had been training. But he'd been her first friend and surely that had to count for something. Still, it was easier said than done, and while Aqua nodded at most of Rarity's comments she couldn't help but bring up what was quite possibly the crux of the problem all the same, once Rarity was finished speaking. "What if he doesn't?"

Ah. Now that was one of the more difficult questions pertaining to this sort of thing. It was also one with which Rarity had some experience. "Well, that does make this sort of thing a bit scarier than it needs to be," she admitted. "If it does happen - and I don't think it will, in your case, but if it does - that's when you find some time away from him, let all your friends tell you he was not worth your time, and one good cry and half a box of chocolates later, you simply move on." Goodness knew she'd wailed for hours over the dismal results of her time with Prince Blueblood, though admittedly that was more of a case of watching her dreams of becoming a Canterlot princess go up in ill-mannered smoke than it was a result of any real heartbreak. "Though if you can, you do remain friends with him, because there is no sense in tossing away a perfectly good friendship."

She paused, switching gears. "But why are we talking about that right now? You haven't even told him yet!" She nudged her again, with a bit more oomph this time. "Next time he's alone. You will tell him, yes?" Her tone, eager and emphatic as it was, didn't really leave room for a 'no.'

'Move on.' It was easier said than done, as far as Aqua was concerned. It was bad enough working up the courage to actually tell Terra her feelings, but the possibility of being simply turned down despite all her work made it almost more trouble than it was worth. But given the alternative, she had to admit that Rarity had a point. If she didn't say something to Terra, he'd go the rest of their time on the Satellite thinking that she was the only one that had any sort of feelings for him at all, and for all her uncertainty, she really couldn't leave that unsaid.

"I'll talk to him."
sailorgenerous: (That's positively fantastic)

"Wonderful!" In Rarity's mind, there really hadn't been any other alternative. There were very few things that could not be accomplished with persistence, and convincing somepony to admit their feelings was not one of them. "Do tell me how it goes afterwards."

[identity profile] wavesinherheart.livejournal.com 2011-10-29 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
"I will," Aqua answered with a nod. True, in the case of things not working out well it was unlikely to be immediately afterwards, but surely she would be forgiven for that under the circumstances.
