Earshot
Characters: Iron Liz and OPEN
Content: Mind-reading abilities are not all they're cracked up to be.
Location: Cafeteria
Time of Day: Afternoon
Warnings: none
Maybe she shouldn't have dragged herself out of bed. She had to get some coffee or something to try to cope with this headache that had been building up for the past several days.
But the cafeteria was far, far worse than even her room. Voices came from EVERYWHERE, bombarding her nonstop, even people who weren't even in the room. What had started as an occasional amusing thought as she passed someone in the hall became a constant chattering in her ears from everyone in what was apparently an expanding range. Sora and his friends going on about their recent departure and return, Princess Celestia's fixation with cake, random snippets of songs, Twilight's motormouth, Pinkie Pie, Pinkie Pie, Pinkie Pie, Pinkie Pie...
Pretty soon it all just became a jumble of noise she could barely even follow. Everywhere. She didn't even make it to the food synthesizer before she couldn't take it anymore and collapsed against the wall, leaving fingernail scratches in the paint as she slid to the floor, clutching her head, gripping her hair as if to tear it out.

Harvey stood and quickly went to fetch some booze. Quite a bit of it - he could use some too, after being chased all over the place by Blondie all week. Returning, he offered Liz a hand up. "C'mon, let's head down to the nature deck. Less people comin' in and out." The only one who spent a huge amount of time there was Mac, and Harvey was pretty sure he didn't have to worry about him being too loud.

"I never knew it was gettin' this bad for you. I'dve come and found you sooner."

"I didn't either, until just now. I was starting to get a headache but I didn't think it was that bad."

Reaching the nature deck, he peered around inside first, before leading her over to a nice patch of grass over by the pond "Good, looks like we got the place to ourselves. You just get comfortable now, kid."

Wait.
The nature deck was definitely much calmer. Much better. Taking a slow, soothing breath, Liz eased herself down onto the grass, taking a moment to dip her hands in the pond and dab some of its cold water over her face.

"Better?" She definitely looked a lot better already. Uncorking the bottle of wine he'd grabbed, he held it out to her. No glasses, but it was just the two of them anyway and he had the scotch for himself.

"Much."
He was still causing a little bit of a ruckus in her head - she got a mental chuckle out of the gorilla costume image at least, but the rest of the satellite was much further away now. A dull roar, really. And maybe the wine would dull it a little more.

"'Least it's only for the week. It'll be over soon. Could probably even wait it out down here if you want." Between the two of them, he was pretty sure they could keep the place relatively quiet and people-free. Of course, he couldn't stick around too long if Minako happened to find them...

Clearly she hadn't been getting enough sleep with this going on.

"Tell me if you hear Minako comin', kid?"

It was quiet for a long time after that, Liz just staring off at the wall as she sipped her wine. She was about halfway through before her eyes started getting heavy, finally starting to relax. The chatter of minds passing through hers just became a distant, clouded jumble and she drifted in a happy, bubbling feeling as she closed her eyes, her head gently sliding over into Harvey's lap.

He looked down at Liz with a little surprise as she slid her head into his lap, then tousled her hair lightly. Good. She needed the rest. Trying not to jostle her, he carefully worked his way out of his jacket and draped it over her. For a while, he just sat there, rubbing her back and humming softly, until eventually he leaned back and drifted off himself.
