That was more or less expected. He took a couple hits, blocked the third and jumped back a bit to get some distance. Wooden swords were safer for sparring, yes, but there still tended to be some bruises. On the other hand, that was just fine. It pulled him in a little more and got his mind off of some of the crap that was bothering him, if only because thinking of it while sparring would only lead to a very decisive butt kicking.
He back off a bit, taking a more defensive stance. Defense wasn't exactly a strong suit for him and he knew he needed to work on it. He would wait this time, try the block and counter again see if maybe a faster reaction time on his counter might make get him somewhere.
