The Bell Tolls for Thee
Characters: Maes Hughes & Open to whoever hears Maes
Content: Halloween Event! Running from and/or Fighting Scarecrows
Location: Deck 3 [Housing Deck] - Bathroom, then Hallway
Time of day: Midnight~
Warnings: CREEPY SCARECROWS!
Maes tossed his toothbrush back into his cup and picked it up from the sink's edge. It was late, but he hadn't exactly been sleeping much lately. During the day he managed to pull off his usual carefree, laid back self, but at night he was reminded of just how much he had lost. It wasn't exactly nightmares that plagued him, just a feeling of sadness and loneliness...and failure. What were they going to do...now that he was gone? Maes sighed, splashing water on his face and wiping it down with a towel. He knew Cambot was probably hovering outside the bathroom waiting to see if there was anything more he could record and broadcast, even at this late hour.
As Maes tossed the towel to the side he heard the bathroom door open and close. He looked up only to find that the doorway was empty. Odd, was Cambot sneaking in on him? That was kind of rude wasn't it? Maes shook his head and turned back to the bathroom mirror.
Only to find a full-size Scarecrow standing behind him in its reflection.
"HOL-JEEZE!" Maes cried out in surprise as he spun around, his hand knocking over the cup and his toothbrush that had been perched on the sink.
The scarecrow didn't move, it only stared at Maes with empty button eyes. It was smiling, well, a stitched on smile, but still a smile. Maes took a few deep breaths when it didn't show signs of moving. He wondered if he was finally loosing it. Surely THIS wasn't a normal part of this crazy space adventure. Slowly, cautiously, Maes knelt down and picked up the toothbrush, "Okay Mr.Scarecrow. You just stay over there and I'll let you have the bathroom all to yourself."
Items in hand, Maes rose to his feet again. He was starting to wish he'd gotten some knives from the kitchen after all since he felt pretty vulnerable right now. Not only was he weaponless except for his toothbrush, but he was already in his pajamas (a cotton pair he had found with little duckies on them, it reminded him of a pair Elysia had gotten him for Father's Day). How much more vulnerable could he be? Taking a deep breath and keeping his eye on the scarecrow, Maes started sneaking back to the door. He managed to get out of the bathroom and shut the door back on the scarecrow. As soon as the door was shut he let out a sigh of relief and turned to walk back to his room.
Only to find another scarecrow there, in the corner, waiting for him. "WHAT THE HELL!"

Maes turned back to find that the scarecrow had vanished with the distraction of Liz. He cursed under his breath because he really wasn't sure what these things were capable of.

"I think the better question is how to get rid of them." Because seriously, those eyes were starting to creep her out. Generally they were starting to remind her of that bear. Why did Linkara keep that thing around, anyway?
She hadn't noticed where the other one had gone either, and the one behind her seemed to vanish as well. She frowned and tightened the grip on her broom.
"Never thought I'd say this, but 'bring back the venom cocks.'"

Suddenly, at the opposite end of the deck, THREE scarecrows appeared, seemingly out of nowhere. They swayed slightly before hoping slowly, ever so slowly, towards Liz and Maes. Maes took a cautious step back, "They haven't done anything yet...but they're really starting to creep me out."
They got closer.
