Content: For no real reason Kaldur decides to spend another evening watching The Little Mermaid. Come join him/mock him/etc.

Ven had reminded him of it, but honestly Kaldur would probably have picked up the movie and watched it sooner rather than later anyway. He did not say it, but the movie reminded him of home in a number of ways. It took place under the oceans, sure, but it was also one of the first movies he had seen with Robin and Wally as friends. They had done it to him mainly as a joke, but he had secretly enjoyed the songs and the animation was nice too. Sure, it was completely inaccurate to his own culture, but he could relate to Ariel's desire to see the surface world and her longing to be with someone who understood her.

He had won the movie several months back, but he had watched it several times since then, especially once Artemis and Wally had disappeared and he had needed a reminder of his friends. Talking to Ven had brought that back up, but also his dealings with the Shade had left him more than a little bit down. This was a chance to unwind and relax after all of that.

So after procuring a snack (chips and dip), Kaldur sat down with The Little Mermaid, not knowing if anyone was going to join him or not.

Kaldur glanced over his shoulder and immediately looked a little surprised to see Namine. However it wasn't long before he broke into a small smile, "Not at all, it would be nice to watch this with someone for a change."

He settled back into his seat, making sure to make room for Namine now. "I have seen this movie many times, so if you also came to my room for another reason it is all right to talk about it," he offered after a moment, but then realized Namine might not have seen the movie and back tracked, "Unless you have not seen it."

Namine returned Kaldur's smile as she moved to sit by him. Though she hadn't seen a movie before, she knew what they were from Sora's memories. This looked like one of the kind made by using a lot of drawings, which fascinated her. How could you make drawings seem to move?

"I haven't," she answered. "It'd be nice to just watch for a while. Though, I did want to say thanks. For when you helped me with the shadow."

He nodded, "Then I shall attempt to keep talking to a minimum." He could remember several times Artemis had gotten on to Wally for always chatting during a movie, so he could understand how annoying that could be. Especially if you had not seen the film in question.

"It was no problem, and I had assistance from Riku," he paused, "but you are welcome." He turned back to the screen, not wanting Namine to miss the movie.

Namine's smile faded slightly at the mention of Riku--he'd been hurt, and she was worried about him--but it was still there as she nodded to acknowledge what Kaldur had said. Not knowing what else to say, she turned her attention back to the movie.

She found herself focusing on it intently, saving up her questions to ask once it was over because she didn't want to miss anything. The first thing she found herself saying as the ending credits began rolling was, "Is that how it happens? You just look at someone and know you love them?"

Kaldur was taken aback by Namine's question and the surprise probably showed on his face. He looked away and got up to stop the movie and begin rewinding it (it WAS a VHS after all). "I believe it is possible, but I know many who would argue that that is simply a naive dream to believe in love at first sight."

As the sound of a whirring video fills the silence, Kaldur falls back into his seat, "But I suppose, sometimes you do not realize you love someone until later...perhaps when it is too late to do anything about it. Everyone finds love differently."

Kaldur's initial response made Namine wonder if she'd asked a bad question, but before she could ask if that was the case, or say sorry, Kaldur answered. What he said made sense; no two hearts were the same, because the chains of memories they contained were different. So maybe feelings were a bit different for everyone, too. "You're probably right."

Trying to find a subject he'd be more comfortable with, she picked up the box for the movie. "I liked the drawings, but how do they make this kind of movie?"

It was probably not quite fair for her to ask all the questions, but the words were out of her mouth before she realized that.

It was more difficult than anything, Kaldur did not consider himself an expert in love by any means. He hoped he was not disillusioning Namine or giving her false information.

He couldn't help but look a little relieved when Namine suggested a change in topic, or at least, subtly shifted the topic. "I cannot say that I know the full details. I know the basic function is they draw the pictures frame by frame and slowly have the drawings move from frame to frame. When it is put together it moves." He pondered a better example and then looked at Namine, "It is like a much more complex flip book."

Namine knew less about the subject than Kaldur did and generally thought any information was better than none. Still, she knew it was complicated, and wasn't going to push things if he was uncomfortable.

Since she wasn't that familiar with flipbooks, his initial explanation was actually more helpful than that example. "That must take a lot of drawings, though. With all the details they put in, even if they have a lot of people drawing...Just one movie must take a long time to make."

"I imagine it does," Kaldur replied, "Not to mention it is more than simply drawing, but also ensuring the animation matches when the actors speak and also inking and coloring those drawings as well." Namine had now made him curious about the process when he hadn't exactly wondered about it before. Perhaps he could research it some time when he was off.

It was too bad there were probably no books about animation on the satellite, because Namine would join him in that research. As it is, all she can do now is follow his thinking and try to add it. "They probably have to have to have some way to be sure that everything is drawn the same even if different people draw it, too."

He chuckled, "We are reaching the limit of my knowledge of the subject I am afraid, but yes I would imagine so."

He leaned back, "Perhaps it would be wise to explore the library. I know that there is not much there but it might have something about animation."

"Do you think so?" She hadn't looked at the library much, being more of an artist than a reader and having let her first impression of the books there color her opinion of the place.

It might be worth another look, though, especially if someone more used to books and reading was helping her.

Kaldur shrugged, "I have not look, but it would not hurt to see, especially if you are so interested in learning more." He looked thoughtful, "I do not know if they would have books on how to animate yourself, but I would think there are topics on the process. Or perhaps we can find a means of making a flip book so I can demonstrate what I was talking about earlier."

She nodded. Even just general information would help, though his second idea piqued her interest even more. "What would you need to make a flip book?"

If it's just basic art supplies, they have plenty of those on the satellite.

"Several pages of paper bound together and a writing device of some kind." Flipbooks were simple enough to make.

"Those would be easy to get here, so we could make one anytime." That much she can say with confidence, having scoured the art supplies not long after she arrived.

Kaldur nodded. He was glad to hear that, especially given that Namine seemed so interested. "That is good to hear then."

"I don't have them with me now, but I can get some." She paused, suddenly realizing that now might not be a good time. "Unless another time would be better."
