Ven had reminded him of it, but honestly Kaldur would probably have picked up the movie and watched it sooner rather than later anyway. He did not say it, but the movie reminded him of home in a number of ways. It took place under the oceans, sure, but it was also one of the first movies he had seen with Robin and Wally as friends. They had done it to him mainly as a joke, but he had secretly enjoyed the songs and the animation was nice too. Sure, it was completely inaccurate to his own culture, but he could relate to Ariel's desire to see the surface world and her longing to be with someone who understood her.

He had won the movie several months back, but he had watched it several times since then, especially once Artemis and Wally had disappeared and he had needed a reminder of his friends. Talking to Ven had brought that back up, but also his dealings with the Shade had left him more than a little bit down. This was a chance to unwind and relax after all of that.

So after procuring a snack (chips and dip), Kaldur sat down with The Little Mermaid, not knowing if anyone was going to join him or not.

Sora could definitely understand that homesick feeling...he'd been feeling it on and off for awhile. "Oh yeah, you were from an ocean world, right?" Or at least one where there was both a great ocean and lots of land.

"Sure!" Sora stepped inside, sitting down on the couch next to Kaldur. He was really curious now to see how this movie differed from what actually happened. "And you don't have to rewind if you don't wanna. I just want to see how accurate the story is in this movie." He grabbed up a handful of chips when offered.
optimistickey: (Happy - Such a tease)

"Yeah, I guess Atlantica had some land, too...I just never got to see much of it," Sora replied. Having a (temporary) dolphin tail and all meant they were confined to the oceans. He did remember Kaldur saying he could use some kinds of magic. "So...did you have to use magic to have a merperson form on your world, too?"

He had met Ariel, which was kind of exciting now with her movie here. "I will!" Sora said with a nod. He didn't see the beginning, so he couldn't say anything on that front, but at least the rest he could look at.

They got to the part where King Triton destroyed Ariel's grotto, and Sora frowned. He did remember how all this went down. "Yeah, that's pretty accurate to what happened..."

"Ohh...yeah, that makes sense!" Sora responded, folding his hands behind his head. He wondered if there were any such people in Atlantica, too...the only ones he'd seen had fish tails.

The movie continued on, although Sora was a little sad that there was never so much as a mention of he and his friends. Maybe whoever made the movie was more concerned about keeping world order. They now got to the part where Ariel gave up her voice to Ursula to gain human legs...something Sora and his friends had tried to prevent, but failed. "Yeah, all this happened, too..."

Sora glanced over at Kaldur when he brought up the person he was interested in...but there seemed to be a bit of hesitation there. Should he bring it up further? He decided just to focus on other things for now. "Did they not want you to go up to the surface world or something in Atlantis?" How come underwater dwellers seemed to be so fearful of the land?

"I guess if you can breathe fine in both water and on land then it's not much of a problem! I don't think anyone in Atlantica could do that normally." Or, even if they could, there was still the problem of no legs.
optimistickey: (Curious - Small world you say?)

So that was different from how King Triton had reacted, then. "That's good that they supported you! I'm sure they realized how important it was for you." He certainly hoped that all his friends back home would understand why he'd had to stay away for so long.

Sora was momentarily distracted from the movie when Kaldur went off on a slight tangent...talking about friends he'd left behind. It sounded like maybe they had had a fight, but that Kaldur still missed them. That was certainly something he could understand. "Who're you talking about?"

Sora just shrugged...somehow, it had become some a habit of him to take on other peoples' personal burdens that he hardly even noticed it when it happened. "I don't mind. You can talk about it if you want to."

Kaldur may have gotten a bit of a break on that, though, since it got to the point of the movie where Ariel went up on land and investigated Prince Eric's kingdom. Sora focused on that for a bit. "I didn't get to see any of this happen...we couldn't go up on land at the time."
optimistickey: (Happy - Calm)

Apparently, Kaldur didn't feel like pressing on it right now. Sora guessed it must not've been that big of a deal if he wasn't going to bring it up again, so he let it go for now.

He nodded. "Yeah, me and Donald and Goofy all got different forms. It was fun, but had to learn how to swim twice since I forgot over the year I was gone."
optimistickey: (Neutral - World guardian)

[personal profile] optimistickey 2012-02-08 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, it's pretty different. At least it was better than Donald, though...he just got octopus legs!" he said with a grin. But on the other hand, he was glad he'd gotten a tail...it probably would've been a lot harder to keep up with Ariel and everyone if he just had to swim with his feet.

It got to the part in the movie where Ursula disguised herself and tried to steal Eric away from Ariel...and it was there that it became obvious that she hypnotized Eric. "Ha, that hag knew that Eric would never be interested in her normally!"
optimistickey: (Neutral - Let's chat)

[personal profile] optimistickey 2012-02-16 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Kaldur would probably have been surprised at how little Sora found strange anymore...after encountering all sorts of talking animals, living furniture, a variety of monsters, very little really surprised him anymore. And even if something did, that made the worlds all the more large and interesting.

They then got to the part where the animals interrupted Ursula's fake wedding, while Ariel was trying to reach the ship in time. Sora continued to comment on what was different. "We didn't see any wedding come up! They must've added that part to give it more action or something."
optimistickey: (Interested - Ooooooh)

"It makes her getting beaten all the better!" Sora agreed.

Speaking of, they were coming up on the part where Eric came in to battle Ursula and save Ariel. This part, Sora did remember...when Ursula used the trident to make herself huge and create stormclouds. He raised an eyebrow as the scene progressed, however. "Huh, I thought there'd be a song here..."

[personal profile] optimistickey 2012-02-19 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah! When we fought Ursula like this, we used a song to help beat her! Even she sang it, too!" Apparently, it didn't occur to Sora that singing during a final battle with an enemy was that strange...it just felt like the appropriate thing to do at the time.
optimistickey: (Interested - Do you mean me?)

[personal profile] optimistickey 2012-02-20 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, that was the only time we ever did use music in a battle..." Sora mused. Looking back on it now, he supposed it was a little bit odd. "I dunno why. It just seemed to make sense at the time! Most of the time good old-fashioned fighting does the trick, though."

Finally, they hit the climax of the battle, with Eric spearing Ursula and killing her. Sora couldn't help but cheer a little.

Sora couldn't much say if he normally got that invested in movies, considering he didn't grow up seeing that many, so it was most likely because he had lived it. It was pretty easy to cheer for people that he had met in reality, even if the movie wasn't quite reality for him.

With that, it was just a matter of the movie wrapping up, since Ariel was choosing to stay on land and live with Eric. "Wow, she didn't stay that long in the ocean...when I was there, Eric offered to swim with her, too."
