Random Encounters Everywhere

[This is an open party-style log! A random encounter begins when the area around your characters suddenly flashes with white light, and they find themselves transported to a flat, mostly-blank dimension. The monsters will be NPC'd reacting to your characters attacking them.]


The Satellite had certainly turned strange this week. Now, any characters wearing their now outfits were liable to suddenly find themselves in strange pocket dimensions...ones full with the most random of encounters!

Kotetsu had no complaints about his new getup. It reminded him quite a bit of his hero suit. The fins, or whatever they were, on the helmet were a bit annoying and he was thankful that Barnaby wasn't aboard to see them.

The weapon was new, though. He'd tried swinging the lance around in a couple different places and he'd already broken a chair or two. He paused at the sound of the banjo and looked up.

"Well, that looks lethal."

Xion's clothes had changed quite a bit, and though she'd gotten used to wearing so much white relatively easily, the armor was something else. It had taken her several tries just to put in on right. At least her weapon was similar enough to what she was used to. It hadn't taken long to adjust to the new sword's balance and weight.

She smiled when she saw Hughes and Kotetsu. "Actually, I knew someone who could control water by playing a sitar."

Demyx could actually be a dangerous opponent when he put his mind to it. Which wasn't very often, but the risk was there.

Maes looked up when he heard Kotetsu. He looked back down at the banjo and then over to the chair, laying crumpled in pieces.

"You're one to talk. Although I think you might be more of a danger to yourself if you don't know how to use that thing."

Maes turned to Xion, "I dunno if I can do that. I'm pretty sure I'm just a normal guy. If you guys want to have fun with any weird powers be my guess." He leans back, plucking out a song, "I'm content with just a banjo."

Kotetsu sheepishly nudged a chair leg with the toe of his boot. "Hey, I've gotten better! Haven't scratched any walls or anything in the last hour."

He perked up at Xion's comment, though. "How did that work? I mean, if it's a certain song or something, we don't want any accidental floods, right?"

Xion did her best to hide a smile at the commentary about Kotetsu's skill with his new weapon. "Practice always helps. Have you not used anything like that before?

"I don't think so. He just liked music, so when he had to fight, he'd just day 'Dance water, dance' and create water versions of himself to help. Whatever he played then controlled them."

Not that Demyx had only created waterforms while fighting. There was that one time she'd found him playing for them and they'd pulled her in to whirl her around in their version of dancing.

Maes just grinned and continued his teasing, "Well, he's certainly a formidable opponent to any dangerous furniture we might come across."

"Huh. That sounds interesting. I wonder if this banjo can do anything like that." It did seem a little odd that everyone got fancy costumes and abilities but he just got a musical instrument. What could be the secret behind it?

"Nope. Nothing as long as this." Kotetsu moved the lace to a safer position. He was enjoying the practice, but he didn't want to carelessly hurt anyone. He gave his best serious expression and added, "And you never know when a chair might jump out at you!"

He eyed the banjo, then looked around. "Is there any water around? We could find out pretty easy."

"That's right, you never do." Having been in Beast's Castle, Xion could say this perfectly seriously.

She didn't bother to look along with Kotetsu. "I think he could always control water like that, he just used the sitar to guide it."

The party has suddenly hit a random encounter, and gets warped into a pocket dimension!

The party is met with three monsters: 1 bandersnatch, 1 goblin and 1 bat.

Characters have the first move!

And suddenly their surrounding changed. Maes jumped and looked around before his eyes landed on the monsters across from them.

"Wait...what just happened?"

The monsters didn't attack, just stared them down. That was odd. They certainly looked READY to attack. Maes glanced at his party members and saw that they were just as immobile as the monsters. Maybe...he was supposed to go first?

An idea came to mind and he started to play a song that popped in his head. Minne, to raise defense.

Once Kotetsu had recovered from the initial surprise (and could move again), he grinned.

"I think we can take 'em," he said. He let out a battle cry, leaped into the air... and stayed there.

"Eh?!"

Xion almost panicked when she realized that she couldn't move to attack the monsters before being attacked. When she saw that they weren't moving for some reason, and that Hughes and Kotetsu were taking turns, she relaxed, waiting until she'd be able to move.

Once she was able, she struck the Goblin with her sword--it looked like a good hit. Now it was someone else's turn. Maybe the monsters would attack now.

Damage is reduced! The bandersnatch attacks Maes, taking out an eighth of his health!

The goblin attacks Kotetsu, taking out about an eighth of his health!

The bat attacks Xion, doing little damage!

The downside to not being able to move was losing the ability to dodge. Maes, normally, would have been able to avoid such an attack. However now he just had to stand and take it. He winced as the bandersnatch clawed at him.

However, now it was his turn again. Maes thought of another song to play, this one a bit more abrasive. He hoped maybe this song would do a bit more since the name that popped in his head was "Foe Requiem"

At this point, Kotetsu got the turn order thing and adjusted his lance to point down at the bandersnatch. When his turn came up again, he let out a battle cry as he rushed back to the ground.

Not being able to dodge was an annoyance, but the injury she'd sustained from the bat wasn't too different from damage done by Heartless. Xion waited her turn and, as soon as it came around, struck the Goblin again.

The bandersnatch is defeated, and disappears with a screech!

The goblin is defeated, and disappears!

The bat attacks Maes, leaving him with about 5/6ths of his health!

Oh man that hurt. Ugh, he feels like he's about to collapse already. The others don't seem to have NEAR this amount of damage.

Still, Hughes isn't going to go down THAT easily.

He plays another tune. Hopefully this one will do something to help himself or his team NOT collapse.

Kotetsu really didn't like that the monsters seemed to be focusing on the unarmed member of the party. But, at least, there was only one left. He didn't bother jumping this time, just making a wild swing at the bat.
