Catching you kids up on real cinema. (Open)
Characters: Harry Dresden, Open
Content: 'Brave Sir Dresden showed a film, he bravely showed a film a film' A film known as Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail. *note: the thread starts after the movie has just ended*
Location: Theater
Time of day: Evening
Warnings: Tis a very silly thing that happens in here.
Finally, with its anticlimactic ending having blazed its way across the screen, Harry sat back in his seat, empty popcorn bag in hand. Closing his eyes to savor the beauty that was quality cinema after a bombardment of awful stories, Harry's mind was full of swallows and black knights, and fearsome bunny rabbits. Beautiful.
Then, opening his eyes, he gazed over at those seated in the theater with him.
"So, what did you think?"

"So, what did you think?"

Even now, when he found her asking about the one scene of the movie that he should have known going in was going to give him hours of grief. "Ah, yeah, that one. That one will probably be a lot funnier when you're a bit older."
Seriously, had none of these kids gotten the birds and the bees chat?

From the way it sounded, she'd hit upon something similar with this question. "Is it like in the experiment with that one word that could mean rooster, too?"
She would have just said the word, but had seemed to make Harry uncomfortable. What was supposed to be so funny about this kind of joke, anyway? Why would she find it funnier when she got older?

Naw, he was probably being paranoid. Although...
No, that quote's been done. Anyway, right now he was very glad he hadn't been eating anything when Xion asked her question, because as it was he somehow managed to almost choke on nothing, and a spittake would have been just undignified.
Hell's bells, if he ever got his hand on the author of that thing, there would be hell to pay.
"Um, pretty much like that, except actually meant to be funny, not...whatever that was meant to be."

The idea that the same kind of thing could be used to be funny in one instance, and not in another, is a new one to her. "Really? And I'll understand it better when I'm older?"
What was the age he had mentioned--17?

"Basically, the humor is them offering something he knows he shouldn't want, but does anyway. So they keep tempting him, until he finally admits he does want it, after enduring all the frustration leading up to that moment, then when he finally admits he wants it, he gets saved before he can take advantage of the situation."

Not that she got it totally, but Harry looked uncomfortable, and at least now she knew the reason it was supposed to be funny. Though it sounded kind of complicated--more so than she'd thought at least. She wasn't sure how being rescued just when you were going to get something you wanted was funny, but decided she'd save that question for another time.

"Someday I'll explain schadenfreude. I'm pretty sure they have a song about it."
no subject
"There's a song about it?" She looked a little surprised. All she knew about music came from Demyx, and he'd never mentioned writing a song about something.
