Catching you kids up on real cinema. (Open)
Characters: Harry Dresden, Open
Content: 'Brave Sir Dresden showed a film, he bravely showed a film a film' A film known as Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail. *note: the thread starts after the movie has just ended*
Location: Theater
Time of day: Evening
Warnings: Tis a very silly thing that happens in here.
Finally, with its anticlimactic ending having blazed its way across the screen, Harry sat back in his seat, empty popcorn bag in hand. Closing his eyes to savor the beauty that was quality cinema after a bombardment of awful stories, Harry's mind was full of swallows and black knights, and fearsome bunny rabbits. Beautiful.
Then, opening his eyes, he gazed over at those seated in the theater with him.
"So, what did you think?"

"So, what did you think?"

And then, once it was done, Harry asked what they thought of it. "It was really funny, but...I wanted to see them actually storm the French guys' castle at the end! It's like it ended too soon!"
He thought a little more about everything that had gone in. "Also, I didn't really get what was going on in that castle with all the ladies in white."

Ah, but things truly were too good to last. Harry opened his mouth to explain that scene as well, right around the time his brain finished processing what the teenager was actually asking about, and then promptly pounded the breaks so fast Harry probably gave himself some swelling of the frontal lobe.
"That scene? Ah, that scene is a bit more, er, complicated."

But to Harry's other answer, he just asked, "Complicated how?"
Sora jumped up in surprise when Pinkie flopped over the back of his seat. She had such a habit of popping out of nowhere! Although, he had to agree...to Sora it just seemed like the knight was freaking out that the women wanted to take care of him, and he didn't quite see the humor in that.

Jerking around when a grinning muzzle appeared between him and Sora like a specter of cuddly doom, Harry nearly choked on his own tongue. Oh no, there were not enough facepalms and head desks in the world to cover this particular nightmare the universe had thrown him into. It was probably collecting on the good luck that had lead him to find a quality movie in the midst of a place entirely dedicated to inflicting the bad upon all who inhabit it.
Glancing between clueless teen and innocent pink pony, Harry felt his heart sinking deeper into his stomach by the second. Sure, he'd probably done enough in his life to land himself a one way ticket to hell when he finally bit the big one, but he was pretty sure explaining why a bunch of nuns wanted spankings to these two would cinch the deal.
"Well, you see, uh, how much do you two know about dating?" he managed weakly.

And his experience was pretty close to Pinkie's ironically enough...minus the 'huge meanie jerkface' and the donuts. He'd just always been too busy fighting the Heartless to even think about that, and even then, thinking about it just made him a bit flustered, because he didn't know what to think about it.
"Me neither...I've just always been so busy, and I dunno..." he trailed off, not wanting to reveal just how confused he was on the subject, especially when his thoughts wandered to Kairi. "I know the basics I guess."

And he didn't even have to blow something up to do it. Somewhere Murphy shed a tear of pride.
"Ah, that explains it then," Harry said with a sage nod to hide the fact that it actually kind of didn't. Fortunately it was enough of a half truth that Harry's horrible lying skills might not give him away. "See, the jokes they were using there are the kind you can only really understand if you've been in a relationship, and experienced the feelings it can make you feel." Giving a shrug, he reached over to nab some of Pinkie's popcorn. "Love makes you crazy."

Sora's only experience with spanking was what parents did to their children when they misbehaved (not his parents, though.) And dating was about taking a girl you liked out to dinner and movies or someplace else they liked, plus kissing and maybe more. He didn't quite see how those two things intersected. At least...not in any way that wasn't leading his mind to weird places.

No, see, you can't be going to hell when you're already there to begin with.
"I..."
...
"Look..."
...
"Um...the thing is...have either of you played a video game?"
no subject
"It was good," she answered, with a smile.
no subject
And certainly nothing took one's mind off things quite like the genre defying antics of Monty Python.
"Glad you think so," he grinned. "Now half the things I say might actually make sense."
no subject
"Only half?" she asked, with a faint smile.
no subject
Still, he had also taught Harry that understanding magic was understanding life, and you couldn't understand life without living.
Pleased he'd gotten a smile out of the serious young woman, Harry just shrugged. "Well, you still haven't seen Star Wars."
no subject
If it hadn't been for Terra and Ven, she probably never would have had a life outside of the library.
"Star Wars?"
no subject
"The single most life changing science fiction film you'll ever see."
no subject
"Maybe later, then."
no subject
"It's a-" he almost said date, then something told him that would be a bad idea. Like somewhere
in the not to distant futurea pony, snarker, and Knight of the Cross were all staring at him reprovingly and shaking their heads slowly. "movie night."no subject
Given the hastily adjusted wording, however, she simply nodded. "I'll be looking forward to it."

She'd liked it, and had thought it was funny. Only one thing confused her. "I didn't understand a lot of the jokes at the French castle.' She paused for a moment. "Or maybe I didn't understand why they're supposed to be funny.
no subject
Even now, when he found her asking about the one scene of the movie that he should have known going in was going to give him hours of grief. "Ah, yeah, that one. That one will probably be a lot funnier when you're a bit older."
Seriously, had none of these kids gotten the birds and the bees chat?
no subject
From the way it sounded, she'd hit upon something similar with this question. "Is it like in the experiment with that one word that could mean rooster, too?"
She would have just said the word, but had seemed to make Harry uncomfortable. What was supposed to be so funny about this kind of joke, anyway? Why would she find it funnier when she got older?
no subject
Naw, he was probably being paranoid. Although...
No, that quote's been done. Anyway, right now he was very glad he hadn't been eating anything when Xion asked her question, because as it was he somehow managed to almost choke on nothing, and a spittake would have been just undignified.
Hell's bells, if he ever got his hand on the author of that thing, there would be hell to pay.
"Um, pretty much like that, except actually meant to be funny, not...whatever that was meant to be."
no subject
The idea that the same kind of thing could be used to be funny in one instance, and not in another, is a new one to her. "Really? And I'll understand it better when I'm older?"
What was the age he had mentioned--17?
no subject
"Basically, the humor is them offering something he knows he shouldn't want, but does anyway. So they keep tempting him, until he finally admits he does want it, after enduring all the frustration leading up to that moment, then when he finally admits he wants it, he gets saved before he can take advantage of the situation."
no subject
Not that she got it totally, but Harry looked uncomfortable, and at least now she knew the reason it was supposed to be funny. Though it sounded kind of complicated--more so than she'd thought at least. She wasn't sure how being rescued just when you were going to get something you wanted was funny, but decided she'd save that question for another time.

"Someday I'll explain schadenfreude. I'm pretty sure they have a song about it."
no subject
"There's a song about it?" She looked a little surprised. All she knew about music came from Demyx, and he'd never mentioned writing a song about something.

"That's one of the classic scenes. You're totally expecting some terrible monster, and then, bam! They hit you with the killer rabbit." Harry paused and thought, "Frankly, I sort of wish more of the monsters I fought were a bit more adorable. It would make them easier to handle."

The point is, I've had to fight some really weird stuff in my time."

"Funny, those aren't the adjectives most people apply to me."

She gave Harry a small, but genuine grin with her legs taking the chance to cross each other. "It was good...even if a little corny in some areas."
She turned her head a little in mused curiosity. "I take it this movie is from your time?"
no subject
Returning his own grin, a mix of sharp wit and almost boyish glee, his elbows resting back on the seat. "That's actually intentional. Believe it or not, this was pretty subversive when it was made, and a lot of films copied its style over the years."
He gave a half nod. "Sort of. It was made when I was a lot younger, but its lasted over the years. Especially its quotes. You can have a whole conversation of nothing but."
