[Pinkie's announcement after Discord's defeat wasn't just hot air. As soon as five minutes after the chaos god's last cry echoed throughout the ship, there's already music blaring out the open doors of the recreation deck. As if in defiance of Discord's attack on her there, Pinkie's filled the place with even MORE balloons than typical for one of her parties. Above the main refreshment table - which is clearly the one with the biggest cake on it - there's a few banners. The topmost one reads SO LONG DISCORD! Right below it is a smaller one saying SORRY FOR BEING A MEANIE. The bottom one is a little larger and written in a different color HAPPY LATE HEARTS AND HOOVES DAY! In all the chaos, she'd completely FORGOTTEN a holiday; could you believe it? But she was totally going to make it up now, with a party to beat all parties!]

Riku's lips parted as if to reply, but he stopped short as she figured it out. He gave her a nod. "That's what I want to make sure of. Note to self: never let something sentient that doesn't need to eat or drink make your food."

Namine blinked, thinking for a moment to make sure she thought she understood what he'd said. 'Sentient' was a new word, but she thought he was talking about the 'bots. She could, at least, try to reassure him about the food, though. "Since Pinkie Pie's throwing the party, I think she made it all."

He furrowed his brow when she blinked. Riku wasn't sure what she didn't understand, but without a question, he couldn't answer her.

"Sure hope so." With that, he took a little from the bowl and sipped from the cup. He smacked his lips a little. "...At least I don't taste any alcohol."

Namine barely noticed any confusion on his part--she was used to working around words she didn't know.

"You know what alcohol tastes like?" That surprised her. Weren't people their age supposed to stay away from that?

"Yeah," Riku admitted. "...Sort of. More like how it feels. The bots spiked some punch they gave me a while ago. It felt really warm in my throat. Like I drank something hot, but the drink wasn't at all. It... wasn't what I expected." He paused a moment before adding, "Honestly, I don't get the hype over alcohol if it's like that."

"They like messing with drinks, don't they?" Namine shook her head, making note of his description so she'd know if someone tried to give her something with alcohol in it. "If it tastes that way, I think I agree with you."

"Yeah, they do." Riku took a look at the remnants of his drink in his cup and turned back to the punch bowl. "Want any while I'm at it?"

"It didn't taste right, it felt strange, and it made me feel like I wasn't all here. Like I just came out of a really boring class or I don't get enough sleep. I don't even want to know what being drunk is like."

"I'm okay, thanks." She held up a cup that still had some root beer left in it.

She pulled a face at his more detailed description. "Then why do some people like it so much?"

Riku nodded with a smile.

He paused to consider. "Know what? ...I got no idea. Maybe it's a way to lose yourself and get way from your trouble, but you better have a really bad life to want that."

Namine tilted her head as she considered that idea. "Then I guess "bad" must be different for everybody."

They'd never considered losing themselves like that, had they?

"It is. Everything's perspective." He swished his drink around in his cup, watching a couple bubbles. "I got my home destroyed and ended up away from everyone I cared about. That was pretty bad. Difference is I tried to do something about it."

"Not everybody has that strong of a heart."

Or a heart at all, but that was another issue entirely.

"...I'm not sure if people with drinking problems have weak hearts, though." Maybe weakened livers, but that was something else.

She nodded, smiling a bit. "You can't judge how strong a person's heart is by the mistakes they make, right?"

Riku took a deep breath. "Depends on the mistakes."

"Not always." Namine laid a hand on his arm.

"But when someone gives in?" At her touch he looked right at her.

"And if, when they realize that they made a mistake and they hurt people they cared about, they do everything they can to fix it?" Answering a question with a question wasn't the usual way of doing things, but...

"...Then maybe that's a sign of a strengthening heart." He didn't quite smile, but he didn't look quite as down, either.

"I'd think so." Namine gave him a small smile.

And he gave her a small one and a nod.
