Crow was pretty excited here...he finally got to fly around the SOL on his own, like a real crow! And now that he and everyone else had turned into weird battle monsters, or 'Pokemon' as Harvey had said, there was sure to be a whole bunch of fun fights that he could watch! ...And perhaps, participate in, if he was feeling up to it. He could definitely kick Servo’s butt in these kinds of battles, anyway.

So, he had staked himself out in the rafters near the top of the recreation deck, holding a small prop microphone in his claws. If there was one thing he excelled at, it was hilarious commentary!

“Allllllrighty, let’s see who’s gonna come out on top on this week’s colorful battle monster tournament of PAIN!”

It had taken Squall a little bit to get to his new form, but once he'd gotten used to it he'd wasted no time heading out to see what he could make of the new form.

And if that meant fighting with people, well. That was what the Recreation deck was for, right?

Kaldur was still getting used to wielding shells instead of swords but it was much the same. For some reason he felt more comfortable as this otter-creature than he had as a pony, but perhaps part of that was the connection to the water and his ability to walk on two legs still.

He noticed the blue lion from before, Squall, and headed over. "Would you care to test your abilities?" He recalled their brief conversation over Cambot about them.
fatedcircle: (time to explain)

[personal profile] fatedcircle 2012-05-03 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Normally, Squall might have been surprised to find himself approached by something vaguely like a talking otter. But that was before he'd been pulled from the war of the gods into a place that had a habit of doing strange things, and he recognized Kaldur's voice from earlier. As long as he didn't think too hard about the fact that they were both oddly shaped it was tolerable.

"If you're offering."

[personal profile] acceptedburden 2012-05-08 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
"I am. I often sparred before coming here. It will be interesting to test my abilities and limits in this new form." After all, he wouldn't have offered otherwise.

"Should we set ground rules first?"
fatedcircle: (yeah?)

[personal profile] fatedcircle 2012-05-08 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Probably," Squall answered with a nod. It wasn't something that he personally had ever to settle, when most of the people he knew worked be the rules already set out by the Garden, but when they didn't know what the full capabilities of these forms they might as well have at least something of a structure.

"There anything you want to suggest?"

"Where I am from, we try not to completely knock out an opponent but when they are down for a suitable duration of time it is considered a win on the other person's part. Since we do not know the limits yet of these forms it would be wise to exercise some caution in our match." Harvey had said something about type advantages and Kaldur was not yet familiar with all the versions and combinations that meant.

[personal profile] fatedcircle 2012-05-16 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Squall nodded at the explanation. It wasn't too different from how matters were supposed to going in training battles, and without either of them being determined to go against the rules it shouldn't have quite the disastrous end results that tended to come hand in hand with his spars with Seifer.

"How long should we consider down?"

He pondered that for a moment, "I believe a ten-count is traditional." He knew they could lower the count if need be, but ten seemed like a good number to aim for, especially not knowing their own limits.
fatedcircle: (...feather charm?)

[personal profile] fatedcircle 2012-05-19 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
There was a moment of silent consideration, before Squall finally nodded. A count of ten seemed good enough by him, and if it was traditional then surely it was more than a little well-tested.

"Ten works."

With a nod, Kaldur moved back a few steps. "Are we set to begin then?" They didn't have a referee or anything so it was more a matter of making sure both parties were ready and then just doing their best.

Once Leon confirmed that they were Kaldur started with a Razor Shell attack.

[personal profile] fatedcircle 2012-05-23 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Squall nodded at the question, as he settled into the closest thing to a more defensive stance he could manage. He wasn't at all sure what he'd be asked to deal with as far as attacks went, but that didn't mean he couldn't be ready all the same. Even with that, he hadn't been expecting to find shells being used as weapons, and for all that he did his best to dodge he couldn't quite get out of the way entirely. There hadn't ever been anyone in the Garden who'd dealt with thrown weapons, unless you wanted to count Fuujin and Squall had never had to deal with her all that much.

Still, for all that the shells had been surprising uncomfortable, he wasn't about to return the favor, as dodged in close enough for an Iron Tail.

The shells were surprisingly strong but, as Kaldur soon learned, so was Squall's tail. The attack was pretty effective though thankfully Kaldur possessed enough maneuverability to prevent himself from being gutted.

He bounced back quickly, however, and retaliated with a blast of water.
fatedcircle: (armed and ready)

[personal profile] fatedcircle 2012-05-30 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Even though Squall was perfectly familiar with a decent assortment of water-based magic, he wasn't expecting a jet of water to be particularly threatening. Not in comparison to the shells anyway, and it takes him by surprise when it actually does hurt.

It's not enough to stop him from returning the favor however, and he leaps at Kaldur again, lightning crackling around his teeth.

[personal profile] acceptedburden 2012-06-01 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Being used to immunity from most electrical shocks, Kaldur was more than taken aback by the sudden jolt he received from Squall's bite. It was then that he realized this particular form must have some weakness to that element. Kaldur jerked and while he didn't mean to, a cry of pain escaped him. The electricity was more painful than the bite itself and seemed to linger, making it difficult for Kaldur to move.

yabigfurball: (Hmmm what's this?)

[personal profile] yabigfurball 2012-04-29 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
At least this time the Satellite decided to mess with their forms, it left Ammy as a quadruped. Granted, this wasn't a wolf anymore, although she did still get the sense of canine. It also felt like some of her powers were back...although strangely enough, she still couldn't bring up her canvas.

She made her way to the Recreation Deck to see what was going on here, since it seemed like there was quite the gathering going on. She spotted another large quadruped soon enough, although it appeared to be a black lion. A bit of sniffing told her that it was Squall. She approached him, curious.
fatedcircle: (then that'll have to be...)

[personal profile] fatedcircle 2012-05-03 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Squall didn't bat an eye at Ammy approaching. True, she was taller than he was at the moment, but so had been half the things he could remember fighting back at home, and he'd never really minded dogs even if he did like lions better.

So he simply offered a polite nod. He knew there were people on the ship that either could or didn't want to speak and he certainly wasn't going to mind a moment of silence.

[personal profile] yabigfurball 2012-05-04 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
It was pretty cool to be taller than most everyone else on the Satellite for once, when she was more used to being down near peoples' knees. If Ammy could talk in this form, then she was still so used to not speaking that she just chose not to.

She sat down in front of Squall and raised a paw at him as if to ask what sorts of things he could do...she had seen others using special powers, and wanted to know if Squall had them too.
fatedcircle: (such things as our dreams are made on)

[personal profile] fatedcircle 2012-05-06 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
Even for Squall, it was odd trying to read Ammy's body language enough to figure out what she was trying to ask. But after a moment he offered a nod in return. He most certainly had special powers, even if the weren't exactly anything he'd consider all that interesting looking. A question was a question though, and the best way to explain was a demonstration.

A brief moment of concentration later, his tail began to glow white before he jumped up and slammed it heavily against the floor. It wasn't anything like his usual methods of attack, but it seemed to be decent enough and it wasn't like he was going to be complaining either way/
yabigfurball: (Are you asking for a challenge?!)

[personal profile] yabigfurball 2012-05-07 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Ammy backed off to give Squall space to show off...and wow, that attack looked like it would hurt if you were on the wrong end of it! She smiled.

Hmm, she wanted to show something in return, but what? There was in particular a move that she was a bit afraid to try even just for showing off, since it seemed to be unpredictable and capable of some serious destruction. But if she had to, she'd try it. However, she finally decided on a fire move.

She motioned for Squall to step back as much as possible, since this attack would definitely scorch anyone even too close on the sidelines. Once ready, she planted herself squarely on the ground, reared back, and made as if to roar. A massive burst of flame shot out from her, traveling in all directions. This was one time she wished she could direct her fire more.
fatedcircle: (deep breath)

[personal profile] fatedcircle 2012-05-08 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Although none of Squall's moves were anything long range, he obediently stepped back at Ammy's gesture. Just because none of his moves were long range didn't mean that anyone else's were and he'd seen enough fighting styles to know that if someone gestured you to get back, then you got back. He wasn't interested in being in anyone's line of fire.

He hadn't expected the phrase to be quite so literal in this case. It was certainly impressive though, for all that the only real indication of the fact was a slight widening of his eyes. He wouldn't have liked to be in the middle of that, he was quite certain.

"Not too bad."
yabigfurball: (Bestest friends)

[personal profile] yabigfurball 2012-05-09 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
While Squall didn't look as impressed as some of the other people here may have, she didn't mind...she could tell well enough from his looks. She wagged her giant fluffy tail, excited for being able to try these things out.

She nodded at him as if to ask what else he could do. She didn't know if she could show off any more of hers without actually fighting, but she was still curious to know more.
fatedcircle: (yeah?)

[personal profile] fatedcircle 2012-05-09 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
There was a moment of silence in return from Squall. While he did still have other things he could do, none of them were particularly easy to show off, given that they tended to involve his teeth, and he certainly wasn't going to try and bite Ammy, and wasn't sure if it would be so immediately visible if he simply snapped at nothing.

"Nothing that's really easily shown off," he answered with the closest thing he could get to a shrug.
yabigfurball: (Default)

[personal profile] yabigfurball 2012-05-10 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
It probably was smarter of Squall to not try and show that off to Ammy...as understanding as she was, she was still a wolf, and having another animal snap at her would likely cause her to snap back.

She made a motion back that also looked like a shrug, and then looked out at the rest of the deck before looking back at Squall. Did they want to walk around and see what else was going on? Or just kick back and relax? No matter what, she'd never say no to a lazy nap.
fatedcircle: (chivalry's not dead)

[personal profile] fatedcircle 2012-05-11 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Even in something that was very much not his usual form, Squall couldn't really convince himself that sitting down and relaxing was the best of ideas. There was still far too much that needed to be done, even if there wasn't likely to be the sort of situations he'd grown up training for. Besides wasn't it better to be ready than not, just on the off chance that something happened to happen?

"I was probably going to see what other people were up to," he answered. He wasn't going to ask Ammy to come if she didn't want to, though.
yabigfurball: (Big happy puppy!)

[personal profile] yabigfurball 2012-05-15 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, she was fine with going along and meeting others as well! She was generally more of a listener anyway, so having Squall lead the way interested her well enough. She stood up and wagged her tail, ready to see what else people could do now.
