After last week, Kotetsu figured everyone needed some cheering up. Thankfully, the satellite had done most of the work for him. He had been given a councilor's apparel and, dang it, he was taking it to heart.

There was a campfire ablaze near the lake, with hot dogs and marshmallows at the ready nearby. A couple of tables were set up for arts and crafts, so the kids could make birdhouses or dreamcatchers. He'd even managed to set up a small archery field. (The tips were suction cups. No need for any more tragedies.)

Whenever anyone signed in, he greeted them with an enthusiastic "Welcome to Camp S.O.L.!", then directed them towards the activities. Finally, he pointed out where the boys and girls tents were located, with a warning that he better not find anyone in the wrong tent.

"Not bad," MakubeX said, coming up beside her. He found the camp clothing to be quite humiliating, so he was currently wrapped in a blanket, heat be darned. He was very uncomfortable and way out of his element.

Xion smiled at him. "Thanks. It looks like I need a little more practice, though."

Then she noticed the blanket. "Are you cold?"

It didn't seem cold to her, but why else would he be wearing a blanket? It didn't occur to her to think he might not like the clothing offered this week; her Girl Scout uniform had taken some getting used to, but she was fine with it now.

"Or to just refine your technique a bit."

MakubeX sighed and frowned down at the blanket. "I'm rather uncomfortable in these clothes. ...and in this environment."

"Practicing should help with that." It would give her a chance to experiment with different techniques and see which worked best for her, at least.

Hearing the reason for the blanket, she tilted her head in thought. After deciding to leave the issue of the clothes alone, she continued. "You're not used to being outdoors much?"

Granted, her only experiences outdoors hadn't included this sort of thing. Camping out because a mission took a long time was different from what was going on here.

"No," he replied, "There wasn't much green space back home."

"Most of the green space I saw was in Wonderland--there was a big garden and maze. Oh, and the woods in Twilight Town were nice."

Wonderland she hadn't always liked, since everything seemed to change with each visit, but she'd liked the woods near the old mansion in Twilight Town. They'd been quiet and peaceful, unlike a lot of the other places she'd seen.

"We were lucky to have a potted plant in some parts of the fortress," MakubeX said, taking another wary look around.

"I've always wondered what it would be like, but it's all so... open."

Xion followed his gaze. "It is. I actually come down here to think sometimes--it's quiet."

Then, remembering how helpful it had been to have a guide her first time out of the castle, she set down her bow. "Do you want to explore together?"

"Oh, I don't want to take you away from what you're doing," MakubeX said, shaking his head. "...perhaps when you're done? I don't mind watching."

"It's no problem, really, but if you don't mind waiting..." There were only a few arrows in the quiver, so it wouldn't take long.

"Go ahead." He took a seat nearby. "Perhaps I can help you."

"That'd be nice." Any offer of help was appreciated.

Xion knocked another arrow and pulled the string back. Aiming at such a small area on the target was new to her, but she thought she had the idea of it. She let go, and the arrow hit the target slightly closer to the bulls-eye than the previous one.

"Try raising your arm just a bit."

"Okay." Xion tried his suggestion, and this time the arrow hit the ring closest to the bulls-eye. She looked over at him with a smile. "Almost."

"Nearly there." MakubeX replayed the last shot in his head, figuring angles, force, direction...

"This time, try to relax. Take a deep breath and release the arrow when you exhale."

Xion hadn't known she was tense, but taking a deep breath did seem to help. Taking the last arrow from the quiver, she knocked it, drew the string back with her arm at the same height she'd just tried, and took another deep breath. The timing was tricky, but she managed to release the arrow just as she exhaled.

The arrow struck the target just at the edge of the bulls-eye.

Her smile was now a grin. "I did it!"

MakubeX applauded.

"Excellent! Keep it up and you'll be a master in no time."

"I don't know about that." Xion laughed, her face slightly red. It was nice to hear that she'd done well, but she knew it would take a well to get that sort of result every time.

After setting her bow in the little stand provided for it, she went to get her arrows. Once those had been gathered and set in their quiver, she turned to MakubeX. "So, exploring?"

HE sighed and stood. Well, he had agreed to it...

"Yes, let's get going." He had no intention of losing the blanket, though.

Maku's lucky she's not the type to bug him about letting her see his uniform. XD

Xion paused at the not-so-enthusiastic response. While she was happy to show him around, they don't have to go exploring if he didn't really want to.

"You're sure? If you'd rather not, we can do something else.'

XD Well, if she asked...

"Oh, no. We can go." It was much better than just sitting around.

They can't try to climb trees if he's wearing the blanket. X3

"Okay." It really was better than just doing nothing.

The trick was, where to start. After a quick look around, she settled on the lake as a central point. "Why don't we start at the lake?"

...well, they could try... XD

"Okay..." MakubeX wrapped himself a bit tighter. The lake was the part he had been dreading the most. Mugenjou had been far enough away from the ocean that he never really got a good look at it and the biggest amount of water he'd really ever been around was a filled bathtub.

But, as nervous as it made him, it was something he'd always wanted to see. He could do this...

Xion picked up on his apparent discomfort and placed a hand on his shoulder, since his hands were occupied in securing the blanket around him. "Don't worry if you can't swim--I can't either."

It wasn't anything like the ocean, that she knew from Sora's memories. It was still pretty, though, and if you cared to get close enough, you could dunk your feet in and watch the fish come to investigate.

The fact that she didn't know how to swim either made him relax a little.

"All right. Let's go then." He sounded somewhat more confident.
