Do you see what I see?
Characters: Aqua and Terra
Content: Date night!
Location: Wherever would be suited to a date
Time of day: Dinner time, Christmas
Warnings: Sap and awkwardness, most likely
To say Aqua was nervous would have been an understatement. Even knowing that Terra was perfectly willing to accept her, planning something and actually doing were two vastly different things. The fact that she still didn't entirely know what she was doing didn't help matters either. It was only the fact the Terra was going to be just as lost as she was that kept her from giving into whim and running as far and as fast as she could. She hadn't even really had a chance to see if there were any relevant books in the library.
But she could probably muddle her way through things. She would have to. Someone would have to act as a pillar and she wasn't exactly sure Terra was not to manage. So with one last deep breath, and a final check to make sure her dress was arranged properly (it was, not surprisingly) she headed off to where she and Terra were supposed to be meeting. Waiting wasn't going to solve anything, here.

However, it was not just Aqua whom he saw waiting for him. It was Aqua wearing a stunning dress that complimented her figure and made her look 10 times more beautiful than she already was. No wonder Rarity had insisted she get Terra a suit. He would have looked HORRIBLE next to Aqua wearing what he usually did, even HE could understand that. Merely standing there took his breath away but finally he managed, "Wow Aqua, you look beautiful." Okay, that wasn't the smoothest of lines. He cleared his throat and started again, "That is...will you join me for dinner?" He extended an arm to her to escort her to the designated date area.

"Of course I will," she answered with a smile, taking his arm gracefully. Honestly, did he really think she was going to come all this way and not come through with it? "I'd be honored to." And if this was what it took to get Terra looking this nice? She wasn't going to have any problems with doing this more in the future.

And tonight's meal was a treat indeed. He wasn't sure how it had been managed but the plate was a delicious combination of steak and lobster, surf and turf if you will. Terra was slowly beginning to realize just how "high class" this date was getting and was thankful that technically it was all free of charge. He moved over and pulled Aqua's chair out for her. He may have been a terrible person when it came to understanding relationships, but at least he was educated enough to know how one behaved towards a lady in a situation like this. Maybe some of his time at the Castle of Dreams had paid off.
After Aqua was seated he took his own spot across from her, giving her a pleasant smile, he couldn't believe he was doing this! He was on a DATE with Aqua! He started to cut into his steak and realized that while he was enjoying his time he...actually had no idea of what to say. What did one talk about on dates and why hadn't he asked Rarity about topics of conversation? It's not like he could talk about the weather even because they were in SPACE!
And just like that, Terra's happiness turned back into panic.
And just as suddenly something sprang into his head, "So have you found any good books yet?"
Wow that was lame.

That was, unfortunately, the easiest part of the date. The food was obviously good, and Aqua had every attention of tending to it properly. But what did she even say. A date was supposed to be more than good food and nice clothes. Worse still she couldn't even ask what he'd been doing since not only did she already know a fair amount of it but it would also sound... nosy, she supposed. And last time she'd gotten particularly interested in what he was doing when he hadn't exactly reacted well.
Out of desperation, she was about to ask anyway, when Terra spoke up instead. Even if it wasn't the best of questions, it was better than hers and she was determined to treat it as if it had been a perfectly sensible question.
"Not yet," she answered. "But I suppose it is Christmas."

Aqua's room had filled up with books pretty quickly at that rate, but it was just a tradition by the time Ven showed up. Terra sometimes got her other things, but usually a book was something that was guaranteed to make Aqua happy.
no subject
"I'm not sure how many people here will know that tradition, though," she answered with a smile in return. Terra obviously did, and perhaps one or two more would find their way through thanks to Christmas miracles, but she wasn't really going to be expecting more than a single book if she was lucky. But one good book was a start, in the mire of what the library held.

"I'm sure we'll have a good Christmas all the same." He tried not to think about the year he'd just had leading UP to that Christmas. It would only ruin the mood.

So really, it was make do with what they had and hope (even if there wasn't any good reason to) that something good would come out if it all the same. There was already one bright point to the day. Why not a few more? "I'm sure we will."
no subject
He took a bite, trying to turn his thoughts in another direction. Once he had swallowed he decided to make a suggestion, "You know. We have enough free time around here. If you can't find books you like maybe you could try writing one of your own."
no subject
At Terra's question, she paused, fork halfway to her mouth. "Me?" she asked, blinking in surprise. "I don't really know much about writing books."
no subject
So, when Aqua said she didn't know much about writing them it didn't seem to add up.
"You read a lot, shouldn't that help with knowing how to write a good story?"
no subject
Most of what she knew was really too personal to write about and even her favorite genres were surprisingly wide. And that was assuming she could even manage to any good at writing in the first place. Besides, was she even going to find a way to get it published up here? It didn't seem exactly like the place for it.
"I suppose I can think about it?"
no subject
He smiled, "At least, I mean, there's a limit to the number of activities we can do up here anyway."
no subject
"There is," she answered with a nod. "It's almost like they want to induce boredom between the experiments."
no subject
So, eventually, he managed to be a little less spastic about the conversation. And, if nothing else, the food was decent. Before too long he noticed that both his plate and Aqua's was empty. He looked around, wondering what they were supposed to do next, when he noticed someone had left a C.D. player with speakers in a corner of the room.
Seeing it, he remembered a ball he had been to not too long ago. There had been dancing then too. Maybe...maybe that's what he should do next.
Terra rose from his seat, "Hey Aqua, there's music here. Do you want to dance?" He paused, looking back towards her, "That is, most people do that on dates right?"
no subject
Besides, what else was a lovely dress for?
"I'd love to," she answered with a smile. "I mean, the music's here, right? We might as well use it."
no subject
Besides, if nothing else it was a matter of moving in circles while he held Aqua and NOT stepping on her feet.
The music started to fill the room and Terra held his hand out to Aqua.
no subject
Once the music started, she took Terra's hand gladly. There wasn't any better way to spend an evening, and she did rather like dancing.
no subject
The worries would return of course, they always did, but for now he could just appreciate the fact that Aqua was light on her feet and dancing with him like they had when they were younger.
He lost track of time but after awhile the cd stopped playing and he drifted to a stop in their dancing. He looked down at Aqua. Terra had begun the night on very uncertain terms, not knowing what to do with himself or anything but now he had regained his confidence and he knew, without a doubt, what he needed to do next.
Terra reached down, cupping his hand against Aqua's cheek and followed through by leaning down and kissing her.
no subject
And then before she knew it the CD had stopped playing. It was almost a shame to have to stop, but as Terra slowed to a stop so did she. She wasn't going to force him to bend to her wishes no matter how much she wanted to keep dancing.
What she hadn't expected, however, was Terra bending down and kissing her. But even with it being unexpected is was quite possibly the best ending to the evening, and after a slight pause, she leaned in to return the kiss. Now everything was properly done.
